The Pavilion Skate School participates in and follows the Learn to Skate USA curriculum.

The mission of Learn to Skate USA is to provide a fun and positive experience that will instill a lifelong love of skating. 

Objectives of Learn to Skate USA:

  • Teach children and adults the fundamentals of ice skating while building confidence and skills through each lesson.
  • Provide a progressive curriculum that ensures success from the first steps on the ice to the mastery of advanced skills.
  • Promote the health and firness benefits of ice skating.
  • Promote the health and fitness benefits of ice skating.
  • Equip each participant with the foundation necessary to reach their goal, be it recreational or competitive in nature.

Learn to Skate USA is the only ice skating program endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey and U.S. Speedskating. Learn to Skate USA offers every participants a rewarding ecperience rooted in the lifelong benefits of ice skating.

Our 10 week sessions consist of  1/2 hour direct instruction and 1/2 hour monitored practice time.  Membership to US Figure Skating, and a pass for FREE ADMISSION to a pre-designated Public Session, is included. Skaters are grouped by ability.  

BASIC SKILLS 1-Pre-Free Skate:

 Designed for students 5 years & older.   Move up level by level while learning and having fun with our coaches.  Learn edge work, stroking & turns in the BASIC SKILLS LEVELS; start spins, jumps, and footwork in the FREESKATE LEVELS.

General Information

¨ On the first day of a session, arrive at least 20 minutes prior to class to check-in and receive a nametag and Public Session Pass.  The Pass allows students admission to a designated Public Session.  Skate rental is not included.   

¨ Class assignments are subject to change as per the Skating Director.

¨ Helmets and gloves are mandatory for all beginners, ADULTS INCLUDED.   Bike helmets are acceptable.  WE DO NOT  PROVIDE HELMETS.  Clothing should be warm and comfortable.  We suggest snow pants or snow suits for little ones.

¨ Skates must be tied properly.  All hooks and holes should be used with laces pulled snug.  Thin socks are better than thick socks. 

¨ If your skater is not able to skate on his/her own by practice time, we suggest waiting until the following week to see if they are ready to begin practice area.  Monitors are there to supervise, they cannot give one-on-one attention.

¨ In the event of a serious snow storm, the school may be closed.  An alert message will be placed on the home page of our website:  www.thepavilion.org

¨ Registered students CANNOT bring others on to the ice during skate school hours.  FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT IN ELIMINATION OF THE REGISTERED STUDENT FROM THE SKATE SCHOOL PROGRAM.

¨ The Pavilion maintains a NO REFUND policy and DOES NOT PROVIDE MAKE UP CLASSES.

By registering prior to the first day of class, we will be better equiped to make your child's first session on the ice enjoyable.
